I have enjoyed this class and have learned so much. One of the biggest takeaways is about diversity in a company. Before this class, I mainly thought that having a diverse company meant that you had a wide range of ethnic backgrounds. I have since learned that there is so much more to it. Having a diverse company does have to do with different ethnic backgrounds, ages, mindsets, views on topics, experiences, and lots of other things. Being able to maintain and recruit a diverse team is very difficult to do.
Another thing I learned was how much of an impact diversity can have on your company. Your employee’s, satisfaction, work ethic, customer service, and so on are largely affected by having a balanced and diverse team. By not having diversity as a priority in your recruit and selection process your company will suffer long-term. There any many repercussions from this like lawsuits, lower motivation, high tension, and low teamwork.
With all of that being said I know that I want to work for a company that properties diversity in their company and employees. I want to work for a company that puts time and money into their recruitment process in order to make sure the people they are selecting individuals who bring value to the team. This class has really opened my eyes to a lot of topics and had made me realize how hard it truly is to recruit the applicants you want long term.
