Last summer I did an Internship with Kroger. When I was looking for internships it was initially for the 313 business class. I was assigned to apply to at least one. When looking for one to apply too I felt myself drawn to the big name companies such as Nike, Columbia, or Google. I also was looking for an internship with a job description that caught my eye and that I had at least some prior knowledge of. I wanted something that I knew I would be able to excel in.
When scrolling through, Kroger caught my eye because they had been at the career fair, and my mom had worked with them in the past as a consultant. Having prior knowledge is what drew me in. The next thing was the application process. It seemed simple enough and I met all the job requirements. When it came to the job description I was intrigued to learn more about their intern program and how diverse it would be given the diverse description. I liked that they went into detail about the job itself but also the company and their culture.
After completing the internship I felt that the description matched the job quite well. I knew I was going to be put in the retail general merchandizing role and I was. If anything I would say they should have put more in the description about the amazing experience you would gain as well as the project that you complete over your time in the internship. I remember getting the impression that I wouldn’t be as hands on as I was able to be, and that I wouldn’t have the ability to learn about other things besides the role I was in and that wasn’t the case. I think that if Kroger was not as well known as it is there would not be as many applicants given their description on handshake. This is mostly because it doesn’t go into much detail about the specifics.
