Imagining that I had just graduated and worked in the U.S. for a few years now and got a job offer somewhere in Australia, I would want to look at the benefits or downsides of working internationally for the first time and decide if I want to work in Australia or not.
Australia’s human resource management is known to contribute to the development of HRM practices globally. They understand human relations and use it in their management systems often and understand the evolution of labor markets, regulations, and changing values.
When comparing Australia and the U.S., we can look at the difference in their individualism and how the U.S. emphasizes more on personal achievements and individualism rather than the Australia that balances individualism and their own achievements, rather they are a lot less focus on that and people keep to themselves more and don’t need validation of their achievements from others. I also observed through research that Australians value work-life balance more than Americans. These are both traits of working in Australia that I would like and values that align with my own.
I would enjoy working in Australia because of their work-life balance and being less competitive in the work environment, making work seem more enjoyable and less stressful. I also just believe that it is always a great opportunity to experience new cultures and eventually people form into the culture once they have immersed themselves into it. That is helpful for me to understand if the assignment is short-term or long-term.
