Managing Stress

As I’ve transitioned into my new role as a software developer, I’ve found myself dealing with some stressful situations. There is a lot to learn when joining a new team. There are often new technology stacks, pipelines, and processes to learn. Furthermore, team dynamics can throw in some more challenges since it takes time to learn personalities of team members.

I’ve found all of these changes can induce stress. I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform at a high bar on day one. I’m learning to give myself a break and understand that learning a new job takes time. In actuality, no one on the team expects the new team member to be productive out of the gates. Therefore, the stress really doesn’t help me in many ways.

Some ways I’ve been trying to deal with stress include going for walks, running, and deep breathing exercises. Although I have a ways to go, being mindful and at peace is a journey and not a destination.
