HR Management Week 5

Throughout the last couple of years I have done a wide variety of different interviews whether that be for a new job/internship or for a scholarship. Each of these interviews have made an impact on what I kind of want to happen in an interview compared to what I don’t want to happen as well as gave me knowledge of what I should be prepared for.

One of the interviews that I think was the most impactive for me was when the interviewer doesn’t just sit there and strictly ask me questions. When they talk about themselves and how they got into their position as well as talk about what the company has to offer it helps me gain a better understanding of what it would be like to work for this company. Another thing that this has helped me with is it helps me feel less uncomfortable because I feel a better connection to this person because I now know a little bit more about them and this is something that can make the interview process feel a little more smooth. One interview that I fell like wasn’t very productive at all is one where they just sit there and ask you questions about yourself and never really give you the opportunity to learn a little bit more about the company. I think that this typically turns me away from the company because at the start it feels as though I don’t really have the connection that I’m looking for within a company I’m planning on working for in the future.

One suggestion I have for each company that I have had the opportunity to interview with is maybe have another person there to interview me or have a completely different person interview the second time if needed. I feel as this would give me a better opportunity to feel a little more connected to the company as well as maybe learn some new things that the first interviewer didn’t give me the first time around.
