After going through this weeks module and doing my own personal research I was able to find many different pros and cons of working in a labor union. One of the most important pros of working within a labor union is that it is able to provide the workers with protection. Basically meaning that this is able to give the workers more control in disputes with the company among other things that non-union don’t really have much control over. From the article that I found online most of the cons that associated with a labor union are typically more cons that are associated with the business itself. Unions typically can cost more money for the business to have which is one of the biggest cons that I was able to see by doing my own research about labor unions. I think that these cons are more directed towards the company itself compared to most of the pros being more directed towards the workers.
Personally I would want to join a union if I were just a worker because having protection in my job is something that is very important to me and I feel like being in a union is one of the things that will give me the most protection. Also in a union you are more likely to get higher wages and better benefits and when you ask most people they would say that this is something that they’re looking for within their job. Ultimately in a union you will be more locked into a position and it will be harder for you to leave this position, but for me that would not be as big of a worry compared to having more job security.
