Stressors

I took the life stress inventory test and had a relatively high score. I know on paper a good portion on the changes and events that have occurred in the past year seem big, but I have dealt with and managed them well in my opinion. I am a big believer in support of mental health and finding support, so I am avid in going to therapy to seek help and talk about what I am going through.

That being said, my coping skill identified in the second test was problem focused coping. This is slightly problematic. Problem focused coping focuses on coping by changing the issue or your reaction to it, which yes can be helpful, but can also be negative for big and uncontrollable life events. This is not a coping skill that would benefit a person who only has one coping skill, or limited resources.

The last test, the Type A Behavior Pattern test told me I am mildly impatient and irritable. This comes as no surprise to me. I find myself consistently competing with myself always working hard. And while yes, it gets me where I want to be, it also causes issues when I fail to reach my own standards.

As for work, I feel like i handle high stakes and high stress environments well. I do not let environmental stress affect my performance or attitude often. I think my competitive and impatient behavior in the Type A test shows that I work fast and hard, I work to get things done quickly, which I am proud of. Lastly, my problem focused coping is another skill I find would be extremely helpful in the workplace. By coping with fixing the problem, I effectively solve my problems quickly rather than brushing them off.
