Django – not to be confused with Django Reinhardt…

How many times have you applied for a job, only to question whether you had already applied for it. Getting your first tech job or internship can require hundreds of applications and countless hours tracking application processes, testing, interviewing and other necessary steps required to see the application process to its end.

Our team has chosen JobTracker, a program that will allow the user to track jobs, the status of the application process and communications in such a way that the user will never have to wonder whether they had already applied to said position, who the contact was or what they had planned to do next in the application process. It will offer metrics to track the overall picture of active applications in the pipeline, such as percent requirement for skills, number of applications by month, etc., as well as forms to facilitate backend database CRUD functionality.

Luckily, we chose a very user friendly language called Django which has fit our needs seamlessly. It is a python-based language, named after a famous jazz guitarist from the 1930s, that allows for both backend and frontend website functionality. For example, Django provides built-in forms, templates, authentication and database interactivity. It even has it’s own built in SQLite to start building the database out of the box without worrying about setting up a production database.

Companies such as Instagram, Pinterest, and Mozilla have been using Django for years and it is run by an international team of volunteers. It is a free open source language that enables website developers to rapidly build without compromising on style or functionality. Django, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap and a little bit of JavaScript is the perfect recipe for our project.
