FSH@O invites you, your family, and your friendly furry friends to explore the wonder of Oregon’s natural beauty Sunday, June 12th with an easy, 6 mile hike around Opal Creek. Hiking starts at 10am–though I’d recommend arriving early for better parking options. 🙂

The important details:

Who: You, your friends and family, and your friendly furry family (the trail is dog friendly)!

What: Hiking the Opal Creek trail to Opal Pool. A round trip of 6 mostly flat miles of trail.

When: June 12th, meeting at the trailhead at 10am.  We expect the hike to take about 3-4 hours with pictures, stopping to take in the sites, and lunch.

Getting there: You’ll find driving directions no matter where you’re coming from on this website. Drivers will need a NW Forest Pass or to pay $5 on site

Carpooling: We also encourage carpooling! Please fill out this Google Sheet if you have room in your car or if you’re looking for a ride.

Packing:  Here’s what to bring!

  • Good shoes for hiking
  • Snacks
  • Lunch
  • Plenty of water
  • Sunscreen
  • A camera

Please contact Erica Curry if you have any questions!

Depending on the turnout of this hike, we’re hoping to do more of these in the future! Do you have suggestions of where we should explore, and what we should show off to any new Oregonians? Leave your suggestions for future hikes and outings in the comments!

CARDV Mother’s Day (Weekend) Run/Walk

March 31st, 2016

CARDV is having their 14th annual Mother’s Day (weekend) 5K run/walk and fun walk for safe families on Saturday, May 7th, 2016. I won’t be able to attend this year, but I have really enjoyed attending it in the past.

March madness brackets, “hoops” competition, green marshmallows – need we say more?

March 8th, 2016

Since we couldn’t choose between an event for March Madness or St. Patrick’s Day, we’re combining the two into a fun–filled afternoon with your Ecampus friends!

Wear your favorite college basketball team’s colors and join us for a day of fun where we’ll fill out March Madness brackets for both men and women’s basketball, play an interactive “hoops” competition and enjoy some free refreshing beverages.

Details:
1-3 p.m. (Drop in when you can!)
March 16
3rd floor staff room

FREE food:

Remember those delicious homemade marshmallows Amanda so graciously made in January? Well, she’s stepping it up this month and making festive GREEN marshmallows to add to our hot cocoa!

We’ll also have popcorn and lemonade on hand for you to snack on.

Build your bracket:

Embark in a friendly competition with your Ecampus pals during March Madness 2016. We’ll provide the brackets – all you need to do is pick your teams. After our brackets are chosen, the multimedia developers will create a fun display on the wall near Summer Session where we can track our progress all month.

Basketball competition:

If the brackets aren’t enough competition for you this March, take part in our special basketball activity during the event – “hoop” courtesy Rayne and her artistic efforts. Donations are welcome, but not required. Winner gets the grand prize of a nice pat on the back. 🙂

Aaaand lastly, keep your eye out for a watch party email – where we’ll get together to watch one of the March Madness games.

Find out more on the FSH@O blog.

We hope to see you there!

Wednesday 3-Mile Fun Run

February 29th, 2016

running shoes

Take a break and get some fresh air and exercise each Wednesday with your Ecampus colleagues. We have organized a weekly group run and would like YOU to join us.

The group runs 3 miles each week at varied paces and is open to all levels of experience! We try to keep it fun and social too.

The run takes around 30 minutes, depending on your preferred pace, so you still have time to cool down/grab lunch before you head back to the office.

If you are interested in joining, just meet in front of Dixon Recreation Center at 12:10 p.m. each Wednesday!

Surprise your valentine with a fun, heart-shaped cookie – decorated by their one and only, you!

No valentine? No problem. Decorate one for yourself, your friend, whomever!

We’ll provide the cookies, frosting, sprinkles and more – but please feel free to bring additional decorations to share.

Not a fan of decorating cookies? That’s ok! Stop by anyways to mingle with your colleagues – discuss Valentine’s Day plans, update us on your child’s (puppies totally count) newest interests, etc. FSH@O is all about connections – and we just want to chat with you. Our goal is to encourage the social connections that normally wouldn’t happen during work hours, so, come join us!

We hope to see you there.

Cocoa Connection

January 7th, 2016

Beat the post holiday blues with a cup of hot cocoa or cider with your friends at Extended UnknownCampus.

Drop by the 3rd floor staff room any time on Friday, Jan. 15 between 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Amanda will be serving up delicious hot chocolate (the real deal) and hot apple cider.

Bring your own mug, but we’ll have extras if you forget.

We’re all about connections. Our mission is to encourage the social connections that normally wouldn’t happen during work hours. The more we know about each other, the richer our work lives will be. Come by and share what you did over the holidays, your plans for the MLK weekend or your latest “new puppy” pictures. (Isn’t having a pet a requirement for working at Ecampus?)

The cost?

We are a self-supporting group and our members donate most of the goods, but we appreciate whatever you can contribute on a sliding scale of $1 or more (no change, please). BTW, hot cocoa is $3.05 downstairs at Java II and it’s not nearly as good as ours . . . just sayin’. If you’re on a strict post-holiday budget, come anyway. We really want to connect with you!

End of the Year Potluck Celebration

December 4th, 2015

We are excited to announce we will be having an end of the year celebration on Tuesday, December 15th, in the 3rd floor staff room, from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm! You can drop-in at any time.

The end of the year celebration will be potluck style with enchilada trays from El Sol de Mexico as the main course, provided by the directors. Please sign up for your dish with this spreadsheet; there are a few items on the spreadsheet that are needed for the enchiladas. Because oven space is limited, we highly encourage the use of crockpots instead for warm food. We will have plenty of power strips for crockpots and the like!

Along with socializing and eating food, we will be having an optional Gift Swap Game starting at 12:30 pm. In order to save our pocket books, we ask you not to spend more than $10 on your gift. If you plan on participating, please make/purchase a gift that you think people would enjoy receiving. The game works best when all the gifts are wrapped in a box, bag, or envelope.

We hope you’re excited! Please post any questions you may have in the comments section, so we can answer them for everyone!

Implicit Bias and Inclusion Trainings

November 23rd, 2015

One of the primary issues identified during the Speak Out last week was the need for further training on social justice and inclusivity for members of Oregon State. To meet this need, the Office of Equity and Inclusion is offering a three trainings over the next few weeks to help our community at OSU work towards social justice and inclusion. I highly recommend the Implicit Bias training, especially if you haven’t had search advocate training. Below is the blurb about the trainings from OSU Today:

The Office of Equity and Inclusion is providing workshops in three critical areas foundational towards a larger social justice initiative under development. Come learn important skills and have an opportunity to reflect with others on the topics of Implicit Bias on Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. or Dec. 16 at 10 a.m.; Microaggressions on Dec. 1 at 10 a.m., or on Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m., and/or; Zones of Safety on Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. or Dec. 9 at 10 a.m.  Learn more about each course and please register to attend.

Let me know if you have any questions. I’m currently planning on attending the training on microagressions, if you’d like to join!

Best,

Erica
