Workshop

In October 2024, we convened a group of 30 scientists and restoration practitioners in a three-day workshop intended to summarize the state of our knowledge on the capacity of floodplains to capture and store sediment following wildfire, and to identify key future directions for research in this field. Following the introductory field trip, plenary sessions, and small-group topical discussions, participants were given the opportunity to collaborate on papers emerging from these discussions.  One paper “Conceptualizing Floodplains,” which focused on summarizing the expected magnitude and duration of sediment storage on floodplains based on case studies presented in the existing literature, has already been published. Three additional papers are in preparation and two have been the topic of presentations at professional meetings.
