Interviewing

Now that you are coming close to finishing the Oregon State University Computer Science program, you will be looking for a job. Many employers like to ask candidates Leetcode type questions, so you will have to start practicing Leetcode questions. There are a lot of resources out there to help you, but what has helped me tremendously is using Grokking the Coding Interview on educative.io. This prep course helps individuals identify patterns in certain types of problems and show how to tackle them from easy, medium, and hard. With over 100 questions to go through, you will be able to handle most questions that come to you during an interview.

Even though this prep course is laid out to you, it is not exactly easy. Many people spend 3 month to 1 full year prepping for interviews just to have a chance to get through all of the rounds. You will have to put in that type of work to make it through all of those rounds. Once you feel comfortable answering different types of questions, do not forget to set up multiple prep interviews for yourself so you can handle answering under pressure.

I have failed over twenty interviews before getting an offer that I like. I also have went through over 200 unique algorithms. You will never truly know what you will be asked, so you have to be prepared overall. Because of the ground you will have to cover, finding a position will be hard, but do not be discouraged and definitely do not give up. If anything Leetcoding will get you closer to where you want to be. I started and stopped interviewing over a 6 month time frame.

Do not forget to practice your soft skills as well. Interviewers care about that as well. You cannot neglect that. Leetcoding is important, but if they do not like you, then that can be another barrier, but I believe you can do it!
