First Week

This week we were all assigned to our capstone project groups. And, with some persistence, I managed to get the project that I was hoping for: Using Ocean-Going Robots to Observe Wave Conditions. I have been in contact with the project’s sponsors since week 0, however. And I am currently waiting for one of them to mail me an STM32 development board (https://www.st.com/en/evaluation-tools/nucleo-l496zg.html), which I am excited to try out. The whole list of deliverables for the project each sound exciting on their own. It seems that this list can be split into three groups. The first, is the microcontroller software to calibrate, control, and acquire data from the ECE team’s accelerometer. Second, is the processing of this data. One example of this is to get non-directional and directional wave spectra information.

The final group would then be the compression and transferring of this data for transition to the shore. This is a cool project that could be used as an alternative/addition to the expensive, stationary, and damage-prone buoys that currently monitor our coasts.
