This spring, the OSU Sustainability Office hired two new interns! Mia will be in the Student Engagement role and Tucker in the Assessment and Planning role. We are so excited to welcome them into the office!
Mia Saunders will be taking on the Student Engagement role as the new Sustainability Council Facilitator! In this position, Mia will work on connecting students to resources for advancing sustainability objectives.
Originally from Los Angeles, California, Mia was drawn to study at Oregon State by the beauty of the natural area on and off campus! When not in school or at work, she enjoys getting outdoors and spending time with her friends. Mia is happy to say she is a proud beaver and can call Corvallis home!
Currently, Mia is studying Marketing and Sustainability with a focus on International Business at OSU. After graduation, she plans to support the promotional operations of a sustainable business, non-profit, or NGO that she feels connected to. Mia was eager to apply for the Engagement Internship position because she felt it is a great opportunity to contribute to the sustainability efforts and programs at OSU!
Mia is very excited to begin her journey in this position and can’t wait to lead Sustainability Council this Fall!
Tucker Kirkes is the new Assessment and Planning Intern! In this role, Tucker will be working to implement and promote projects and practices that reduce carbon emissions. He will assist with OSU’s annual sustainability assessment and help improve OSU’s green building and construction standards.
The Assessment and Planning position caught his attention after involvement in the OSU Eco-Rep program, which conducts outreach related to sustainability measures and events within the residence halls. In this position, he hopes to expand his environmental knowledge, particularly in policy and planning!
From Phoenix, Arizona, Tucker was drawn to Oregon State’s Environmental Sciences program for its research opportunities and beautiful campus. As a first-year Environmental Sciences major, he is interested in pursuing a career in research, environmental consulting, or becoming a specialist. This past year, he gained valuable scientific research experience through URSA Engage!
Tucker is also an active member of the Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra. He enjoys playing the piano and viola! In his free time, he enjoys running, reading, and spending time with friends, family, and his dog, Olive.
