The OSU Sustainability Office hired two new interns during fall 2023! Join us in welcoming our new Marketing/Outreach Intern and Software Engineer Intern.
Hoku Tiwanak (she/her/hers)
Hoku Tiwanak is the new Marketing and Outreach Intern at the Sustainability Office! In this role, she manages our social media and email, in addition to our newsletter, blog, and website.
A first year student majoring in Business Marketing, Hoku is from Oahu, Hawaii. Moving away from home to explore has always been a goal of hers. In her time here at OSU, she aspires to travel the PNW and hopefully study abroad! Joining the Sustainability Office was of interest to Hoku because of her love for nature and creativity.
Hoku grew up on the east side of Oahu where she enjoys going to Makapu’u beach, watching the sunset, and hiking. Shaka Shaka Tea is her go-to spot for a Papaya Milk Smoothie and cruising with friends!
Through her high school’s leadership team, Hoku found interest in marketing and event coordinating. She planned events such as prom, and even created her high school’s first youtube channel. With a degree in business, her goal is to become a wedding planner!
Samantha Egge (she/her/hers)
Samantha Egge is the new Software Engineer Intern at the Sustainability Office! Samantha contributes to the maintenance and development of the Sustainability Office’s various websites and software applications.
Originally from Tillamook, she lived on the Big Island of Hawaii while in high school, and on Oahu during her military service. Samantha joined the Army in order to pursue higher education, engaging in online courses where she enjoyed the problem solving and creative aspects of coding. This led her to pursue a Computer Science degree at OSU. She is currently in her third year, specializing in Web and Mobile Development.
Beyond her academics and work, most of her time is spent with her husband and two dogs (a German Shepherd and a Golden Retriever mix). Together, they enjoy taking them on hikes and adventures as much as possible. Samantha’s favorite indoor hobbies are reading, baking, and sewing. Her go-to baked goods right now are chewy ginger snap cookies and pumpkin bread!
Samantha felt joining the Sustainability Office offered the perfect mix of helping her grow as a software engineer while also contributing to sustainability. After earning her degree here at OSU, she looks forward to working as a Software Developer, preferably in the Pacific Northwest to be near the amazing forests!
