Want a free coffee or hot chocolate? Love Hershey’s Kisses? Don’t miss out on Mugs & Kisses, the Sustainability Office‘s Beyond Earth Day event! Mugs & Kisses will take place on April 20 from 9-11am in the MU Quad. Bring a reusable cup or mug to receive a beverage!
Beyond Earth Day is a two-week-long celebration of people and the planet that occurs near Earth Day (April 22) each year at OSU. This year, events and activities run from Saturday, April 15 through Friday, April 28 and are focused on adopting sustainable practices that challenge all people to take on a greater role in their individual and institutional lives.
As part of Beyond Earth Day, Mugs & Kisses helps promote the use of reusable cups on campus rather than disposable cups. This is an important way to reduce waste from single-use items. In fact, in the US alone, it is estimated that we use over 50 billion coffee cups each year! This involves cutting down 20 million trees annually and producing one pound of CO2 emissions for every four cups. Reducing waste is an individual action that each of us can take to have lighter carbon and resource footprints.
Not sure where to find a reusable mug? Community Engagement & Leadership (CEL) offers an Adopt-a-Bottle program — just stop by SEC 250 to get a free washed and sanitized bottle. Bottles and reusable mugs can also be purchased from the OSUsed Store for as little as $1. UHDS dining halls around campus offer bottles and mugs that can be purchased with Dining Dollars or Orange Cash.
We look forward to seeing you there!
