Official results are in: OSU residents donated over 32,000 pounds  – 16 tons – during this year’s Great Move-Out Donation Drive!

This includes an estimated:

  • 14,889 pounds of housewares
  • 4,563 pounds of food, toiletries, and school supplies
  • 10,861 pounds of clothing, linens, and shoes
  • 2,000 pounds of loft kit wood

That’s a total of 32,313 pounds; exceeding our goal of 30,000 pounds of donations!

Donations of food, toiletries, and school supplies increased 14% from last year and donations of clothing, shoes, and linens surpassed last year’s donations by 39%.  This increase in donations could be due to the media coverage from KEZI 9 News, KVAL News, and the Gazette-Times.

We are uncertain as to why donations of wood and housewares decreased by 586% and 5% respectively compared to last year’s donation drive.  Since our trash is not weighed, we are unable to speculate if donations of wood and housewares decreased because more was landfilled or if it was because students took home many of their items instead of donating them.  Our residents made a great showing this year and our team put in exceptional effort to get all the donations hauled, sorted, and distributed to nonprofits.

Special thanks to all of the volunteers who gave their time to pick-up and sort donations and to all the residents who donated!

The Great Move-Out Donation Drive is an annual event coordinated by Campus Recycling in collaboration with Surplus Property, University Housing and Dining, and Student Life.
