Recently, the Oregon State University Spring Creek Project has received a $95,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation. The grant was awarded for the Project to oversee the process of “Forest Symphony”, a wind symphony composed by Hip-Hop Artist Paul Miller, inspired by Oregon forests.
The Oregon State Wind Ensemble will debut the Forest Symphony in May 2016. Miller’s multimedia performance will draw from two artist-in-residencies at the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest in the Cascade Range.
It has been over an entire decade that the Spring Creek Project has hosted writing residencies and other various projects at the HJ Andrews Forest.
The Oregon Community Foundation awards grants through a competitive application and review process. The Creative Heights grants help arts and culture organizations take strategic risks in the creation and dissemination of high-quality new works in Oregon, as well as support unique opportunities for Oregonians to experience innovative arts and culture.
