This week’s Staff Spotlight features Shelley Willis.

Who: Shelley Willis, Property Specialist for Surplus Property since July.

What she does here:

When departments have items they no longer need, we process all the items and determine whether the item could be resold, repurposed, or recycled.

One fave thing about her job:

When some mysterious piece of equipment comes into the warehouse, I get to research the item to see what the item is, if it’s still useful, and figure out a way we can get it back into the hands of someone who needs it. We get some of the most amazing things!

If she could improve one thing about waste reduction at OSU:

We receive a sizable amount of lab glass. Unfortunately lab glass is made at high temperatures and can’t be recycled with the regular glass. Although we try to resell as much as possible, some comes in unfit and is unusable. It goes against the grain here to throw anything away.

This post is part of the”Recycling/Surplus Staff Spotlight” blog series, which showcases staff from Campus Recycling and Surplus Property and will run regularly during the summer. Tune in throughout the summer for more.
