The Student Sustainability Initiative has grants available for OSU students right now in the following categories:

Sustainability Project Grant

The Sustainability Project Grant Program provides OSU students with opportunities to create a more sustainable institution by taking an active role in creating the world they wish to see. SSI is seeking projects that are designed to promote, advocate and make an impact towards the sustainability efforts of OSU, Corvallis and society as a whole. In 2013, awarded $800 to the Rainwater Catchment System Sustainable Project to design and install a 1,000-gallon rainwater catchment system at the OSU Pride Center.

Research Project Grant

SSI believes our campus can be a model living laboratory for sustainability. To better integrate OSU’s renowned research into daily operations and improve the student experience, SSI is seeking applied research projects designed to advance the sustainability of the Corvallis campus’ built environment, operations, policy, academics, and/or student engagement. In 2014, the Creating Compression-Molded Biocomposite Boards from Apple Pomace Research Grant was awarded $3,200 to create prototype nursery pots using apple pomace to reduce the environmental impact of the juice industry, while simultaneously providing a more environmentally-friendly replacement for the polyethylene pots commonly used in plant propagation and research.

Professional Development

SSI’s Professional Development Grant Program is a resource available to OSU students interested in participating in sustainability-related educational opportunities that require them to travel. The program provides OSU students with opportunities to create a more sustainable institution by enabling them to take an active role in creating the world they wish to see. In October 2014, SSI provided funding that supported four OSU student’s attendance at the AASHE (Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) Conference. Students who were awarded participated as presenters and attendees at the 4-day conference held in Portland, Oregon.
