If it’s broke, fix it! Come to the Recycling Warehouse at 644 SW 13th Street on Wednesday, November 20th between 5:30 and 7:30 pm for our second Repair Fair of the year. We won’t have another one until January!
Bring your broken items and questions and volunteers will help you learn how to repair your things, and drop-in DIY (do it yourself) demos to learn repair skills (see list below for what’s on offer this time)! Save money, save natural resources. Free and open to all.

Drop-in Demonstrations:
5:45 to 6:15 pm: Recycle your Cycle: Change Out Your Tube – Do you know what to do if you get a flat tire on your bicycle? Drop by the Bicycle repair station to see how to change out a bicycle tube, as well as what disposal options you have for your old tube(s). (Leader: Jake Kane, Transportation Projects Coordinator for the Student Sustainability Initiative)
6:15 to 6:45 pm: The Basics of Vacuum Maintenance – Household vacuum cleaners come in all shapes and sizes but they work in the same simple way; to function properly they need regular maintenance and cleaning. Stop by the Household repair station for a short demo on basic vacuum maintenance. (Leader: Kyle Knight, Waste Reduction Projects Coordinator for the Student Sustainability Initiative)
6:45 to 7:15 pm: Those Darned Socks: Fixing Holes – Many times, socks, jackets, and sweaters are working great, until you wear through the toe, elbow, or snag them on something. Darning is a method of fixing holes using only thread, rather than sewing a patch on. Drop by the Clothing repair station to see how it’s done. (Leader: Amanda Abbott, volunteer with the Waste Watchers)

Repair Fairs are twice-per-term events sponsored by the student group Waste Watchers, a joint group of Campus Recycling and the Student Sustainability Initiative. In the 2013-14 academic year, we anticipate offering Repair Fairs in October, November, January, February, April and May.

6:10-6:40 pm: How to Reduce Your Energy Bills This Winter – Learn techniques for saving energy at your rental home including how to do basic weatherizing and install low-flow shower heads and sink aerators. We’ll tell you how to get free CFL light bulbs and review incentive programs that are available for renters and homeowners. (Leader: The Energize Corvallis

6:50-7:20 pm: The ABC’s of Bike Maintenance – Learn how to properly Air up your tires and patch tubes, maximize Brakes, and keep your Chain lubed and quiet, along with recommended basic tools to have on hand and local and online resources to do it yourself. (Leader: Kevin Grant, Transportation Action Team Leader for the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition

7:30-8:00 pm: 3 Common Sewing Fixes – Learn how to repair holes with patches, sew-on buttons, and replace zippers, all with a needle and thread! (Leader: Annie Kersting, ”Sewing Meister” for the Waste Watchers)
