The Repair Fairs are back! Come to the Recycling Warehouse at 644 SW 13th Street on Thursday, October 24th between the hours of 6 and 8 pm for our first Repair Fair of the year.

Bring your broken items and questions and volunteers will help you learn how to repair your things, and attend demos to learn DIY (do it yourself) skills (see list below for what’s on offer this time)! Save money, save natural resources and be part of a culture of DIY and reuse. Free and open to all.

October Repair Skills Offered:

October DIY Demonstrations:

6:10-6:40 pm: How to Reduce Your Energy Bills This Winter – Learn techniques for saving energy at your rental home including how to do basic weatherizing and install low-flow shower heads and sink aerators. We’ll tell you how to get free CFL light bulbs and review incentive programs that are available for renters and homeowners. (Leader: The Energize Corvallis team)

6:50-7:20 pm: The ABC’s of Bike Maintenance – Learn how to properly Air up your tires and patch tubes, maximize Brakes, and keep your Chain lubed and quiet, along with recommended basic tools to have on hand and local and online resources to do it yourself. (Leader: Kevin Grant, Transportation Action Team Leader for the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition)

7:30-8:00 pm: 3 Common Sewing Fixes – Learn how to repair holes with patches, sew-on buttons, and replace zippers, all with a needle and thread! (Leader: Annie Kersting, ”Sewing Meister” for the Waste Watchers)

Repair Fairs are twice-per-term events sponsored by the student group Waste Watchers, a joint group of Campus Recycling and the Student Sustainability Initiative. In the 2013-14 academic year, we anticipate offering Repair Fairs in October, November, January, February, April and May.
