This weekend, October 15th and 16th, OSU will compete in the EPA Game Day Challenge, a nationwide competition between universities to reduce waste at football games. The challenge is to educate football fans about waste reduction, and weigh all the trash and recycling from one game. The EPA takes the data and calculates stats such as our recycling rate and the pounds of greenhouse gases prevented from our actions, and schools are ranked.
How You Can Help
As a Game Attendee:
- Pack it in, pack it out. While tailgating, consider bringing trash home with you to help us reduce litter and waste.
- Get it in the right bin. Trash carts and/or dumpsters are located in every tailgating parking lot. Clearly labeled recycle bins bins are located in several of the tailgating areas and every stadium gate entrance has staffed recycle stations starting 2 hours before kickoff.
- Leave recyclables at your stadium seat. Leave recyclables at your stadium seat where our cleaning crews can collect them, rather than throwing them in a garbage can.
As a Volunteer:
Join our team of volunteers to maximize our recycling rate and help OSU win! We will be 1) collecting recycling, 2) rescuing recycling and compost from the trash and 3) sorting material from stadium concessions to demonstrate how much we could be conserving if we switched to compostable materials.
We are working on Saturday (10/15) at 3-7 pm and Sunday (10/16) at 9 am-1 pm at Reser Stadium.
