Oregon State University will receive 14 level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations from ECOtality as part of U.S. Department of Energy’s EV Project. ECOtality was awarded $230 million from the USDOE and partner matches to install 14,000 EV charging stations in 18 major metropolitan areas including: California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C. In addition, most, if not all of the installation cost, will be paid for by The EV Project.

The EV Project will collect and analyze data to characterize vehicle use in diverse topographic and climatic conditions, evaluate the effectiveness of charge infrastructure, and conduct trials of various revenue systems for commercial and public charge infrastructures. The ultimate goal of The EV Project is to take the lessons learned from the deployment of these first 8,300 EVs, and the charging infrastructure supporting them, to enable the streamlined deployment of the next 5,000,000 EVs.

The new charging stations will be located at Reser Stadium, Campus Entrance Station (15th and Jefferson lot), Linus Pauling Science Center, and the Parking Structure. The units will be fully operational by the end of the year.
