a term concluded

As we embark into the Christmas season, I find myself becoming reflective of this past term.

My team and I have accomplish so much. This term has been very design-centered and most of our time has been spent planning and researching. We also established a first working model.

We’ve come to the crossroads part of this project whether the development has caught up with the design. In the next couple of days, we plan to have the majority of our website planned out on Figma. Looking ahead to the next term, we are going to run many usability tests on this mockup until we produce a refined product that we’re satisfied is user-friendly and student-focused. Following that, we will develop our website to reflect our mockup.

Each team member has their own unique strengths, which are all beginning to shine through as we divide up the remaining work. Our biggest challenge next term will be our search function. We are currently researching how to align our tables within a database so that we can properly access information from our website. We plan on making an advanced search option, as well, so determining the correct queries and piecing together the returned data may prove to be slightly difficult. However, we have budgeted adequate time to work through this challenge.

Communication has continued to be our strong suit this term. I am very happy with our teamwork, too, as we have overcome weddings, sickness, and living-arrangement moves. Our passion for this project has only increased as we work. With Winter 2024 registration occurring mid-November, we set up a survey to send out to our peers to gather their thoughts and experiences with Oregon State’s current software. In the new year, we will review the feedback and apply this to our website mockup.

As we wrap up the first third of our project, I am very proud of the work we accomplished. I am also very excited for the remainder of our time together. The new year will bring new challenges and I hope a fresh look to our project.

A very merry Christmas to you <3
