Over the summer, every Wednesday, Master Gardener volunteers opened the Little Bear Patch Garden at Kalmiopsis Elementary School in Brookings, to kids and parents. This has been a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn from hands-on activities.
In August, kids and volunteers separated worms from castings and the castings were diluted with water to feed strawberry plants, and other plants. Pruning, weeding, and deadheading continued as always. And more fun was had harvesting carrots and making bouquets for kids to take home.
This Summer program was designed for children and accompanying adults and winds down as a new school year begins.
