Brookings-Harbor Garden Club Harvest Festival

Master Gardener volunteers Julia Bott, Brenda Blythe, Jeffrie Hall, Frank Furtaw and Michelle Gayden did not let the weather dampen their spirits at the Brookings-Harbor Garden Club’s Harvest Festival. As in past years, Master Gardeners hosted a table at the event to share information about the Master Gardener Program; promote the upcoming training session starting in January and answered gardening questions from the public as part of a “Plant Clinic”.

This October event is always a great outreach opportunity to connect with community members, inspire new gardeners, and represent the MG program in a fun and engaging setting!

Farmers Market – pop up plant sale

On September 13th, for a second time, the Curry County Master Gardener Association had plants for sale at the Gold Beach Saturday Farmer’s Market. Spearheaded by Cindy Myers, this event helped raise funds for ongoing greenhouse projects and offered the Curry community a chance to purchase from a beautiful selection of flowering perennials. These late bloomers were at their peak and ready to brighten any garden. Master Gardeners were also available to chat, give fall transplanting tips and answers plant care questions. We sold approximately 100 one-gallon plants netting around $800 between the two Famer’s Market events.

Thank you, Cindy Myers, Laura Teague, LL Cundiff, Steve Myers and Ali VanOtterloo.

Pacific High School gardening activities

Several Wednesdays in September and October were earmarked as a time for Pacific High School students to work in small groups with Master Gardener volunteers. The students are part of the school’s Horticulture Program, led by Wendy Tomko. Master Gardener Trainee and newly certified MG, Daisy Franzini, joined Wendy, along with several students and parents, to work in the garden. One of the fathers brought an excavator, which helped make significant progress on several garden improvement projects, including extending beds and preparing them for winter.
