Riley Creek Elementary School, Gold Beach, Monday, June 2

As school is getting ready to wrap up for the summer, the Riley Creek garden celebrates with one last event. The annual Strawberry Festival at Riley Creek had 200+ students visit the gardens. Classes came out every half hour from 10:00am-3:00pm!
We had lettuce wraps, face painting, garden dancing, strawberry picking and eating, and, of course, strawberry shortcake. Best strawberry festival ever was said a lot!

Chetco Library Jr Gardener at Little Bear Patch Every Wednesday, June through August, 12:30pm – 2:00pm

Kids and families were welcomed to work alongside Curry County Master Gardeners™ to learn all about gardening. This got off to a great start!
It was great to see the kids and adults working together in the garden. They weeded, harvested strawberries and carrots, fed worms, and were able to capture insects in clear magnifying boxes to see them up close, before releasing them. Overall it was very successful and a lot of fun.

Over the summer, we’ll keep meeting every Wednesday from 12:30pm to 2:00pm at Kalmiopsis Elementary School in Brookings to keep working in the Little Bear Patch Garden. Come prepared to see how a working garden operates as we water, weed , and harvest. See worm composting bins in action. This is a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn from hands-on activities.
The Chetco Library will also be starting a garden behind the Library Annex. On Wednesdays, kids and families are welcome to travel back to the library or meet there at 2:00pm to help their budding garden get off to a great start. They will be planting seeds and starts, watering and weeding, as they prepare for a late summer harvest.
Bring a water bottle and don’t forget sunscreen and a hat. Gardening tools will be provided!
This program is designed for children and accompanying adults. Please plan to attend and be engaged with your child for this program.
