My Path to Software Engineering

  • What got you started with computers or software?

I got my first Bachelor’s degree in math from UCLA, originally planning to go to graduate school. But the deeper I got into math, the less I liked its theoretical and abstract parts. I found myself wanting to do something more hands-on, to work in a field where I could actually create things.

So, I joined the OSU postbac program to switch to software engineering. At OSU, I learned about a lot of important computer science subjects like data structures, algorithms, and operating systems. But what really got me excited was programming and coding, especially making practical applications. Courses like Software Engineering 1 and Computer Graphics gave me the chance to develop my own apps and graphics based on my ideas. In the OSU CS program, I explored many different areas of programming. It wasn’t a deep dive, but it covered a wide range, and I had a lot of fun learning and gaining new skills.

Now, I’m in my last term at OSU, and I’m excited to finish my degree with a great project. This whole journey has been really rewarding, and I can’t wait to see what I can do next with all I’ve learned.
