Overview: Washington County Health and Human Services is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Public Health student with an interest in epidemiology, program evaluation, or related disciplines to support a community survey project. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply public health skills in a real-world environmental health context, focusing on survey data analysis related to community attitudes and behaviors around garbage and recycling services.
Project Description: The intern will assist with the analysis of a community survey designed to assess public perceptions, practices, and satisfaction with local garbage and recycling services. The findings will help inform program planning, outreach strategies, and policy development within the Solid Waste & Recycling Program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean, organize, and analyze survey data using statistical software (e.g., Excel, R, or similar)
- Assist in identifying trends, patterns, and key findings from the data
- Support the development of summary reports, data visualizations, and presentations
- Collaborate with program staff to interpret results and provide actionable insights
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on public engagement and environmental health
Preferred Qualifications: - Current enrollment in a graduate Public Health program, or new graduate
- Interest or coursework in epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, or related fields
- Experience or interest in survey design and data analysis
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Familiarity with R is a plus
Internship Details: - Unpaid position; eligible for academic internship credit
- Flexible start date and duration (1 academic term minimum; option to extend)
