Interview
I only got one interview for the 2021 summer internship during the Fall 2021 hiring season. The process is all new to me, although I can find online stories about other people’s interviews, it is exciting to me as a CS student who transferred from non-tech industry.
I tried my best to maintain effective communication during my interview, ie. ask calcification questions, explain what my solution is before start coding. I was lucky that my interviewer was engaged in the whole process, I got feedbacks and was able to fix small bugs with the interviewer’s help.
Internship
The day one experience is always intense. I was exposed to huge amount of documents and introduction videos. There are a lot of reasons to panic when facing such huge amount of information. One thing I learned is to explore the documents related to your team, and ask for guidance from team members, that helped me find the right resources. One other thing I learned is that it is important to get familiar with development tools and deployment process. Spending time with these tools helps me have a smooth development experience in later part of my internship.
I really enjoyed the intern experience, I think the most valuable thing I learned is the how to find answers to my problems. This is both a painful and meaningful process, which give me confidence to solve any other technical difficulties that I may encounter later in my career.
