Compensation
A personal experience for me where compensation was used to alter a personal decision related to the workforce has continuously been with my job back home. With many of the hourly wages being similar throughout all businesses within Sunriver for younger employees, the biggest compensation factor comes from tips and available benefits that are offered. Although many job titles have opened up due to my status within Sunriver Resort, the pay rates have not exceeded the income I have been able to obtain for years at the business I have stayed loyal to for the last six years on and off. When basing work decisions in between two opportunities, there are a few deciding factors I always take into account. The major factors are often salary, the opportunity for increased pay, location, environment, and the benefits or perks available for use. With the current business offering me tips and discounts, it has been a struggle for me to pass up the opportunity for a lower income. Relating to McClelland’s Achievement Motivation, which is characterized into the three motions of achievement, power, and affiliation, the decisions listed above fit into these categories in many instances. Achievement and power, which is the reason I am going to school, demonstrate the drive I have to succeed in life and this demonstrates my passion for money and hard work. Furthermore, affiliating myself in the environment I am comfortable with that is welcoming, and careful with others, is represented towards the businesses that are more intriguing to work for.
