10th Annual Oregon Veterinary Conference, March 4-6

January 31st, 2011

The Oregon Veterinary Conference (OVC) is a cooperative effort of the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University with the goal of providing meaningful continuing education to Northwest veterinarians, practice managers, and paraprofessionals. This year’s conference offers a variety of topics for the medical and practice management aspects of the companion, equine or large animal veterinary practice. Registration forms and program details may be found on the OVMA website. OSU CVM faculty may attend the OVC free of charge, but must complete a registration form and list the sessions they plan to attend.

The International Camelid Health Conference will also take place March 3-6.

The OVC is a great way for students to network with veterinarians in the area, set up externships, or perhaps even find a future employer. OSU CVM students may attend the conference for free but must complete a registration form which can be accessed on the OVMA website. After completing the form, students should put it in Rita Wehrman’s mailbox, Class of 2013, by February 15. Rita is the student representative to the OVMA.

In conjunction with the OVC, the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) will hold its second annual catered dinner on Saturday, March 5, 6:30 p.m. at LaSells Stewart Center to encourage interaction between veterinary students and veterinarians. Dinner tickets are $30, $25 for students. There is an option for attending veterinarians to sponsor a student. SCAVMA will split the sponsorship evenly among the first 25 students that register and pay for the dinner. “There will be a slight refund for the students that act quickly”, explained Rita. Students must register separately for the SCAVMA Dinner by using this student form, complete it and place it in Mikki Shumaker’s mailbox, class of 2013, by February 23rd. A $25 check made out to OSU SCAVMA should be attached to the form.

Faculty are invited and encouraged to attend the OSU SCAVMA Dinner as well and can register by checking the box on the OVC registration and sending it in with the $30 per person payment.
