Club Spotlight: Healthy Aging Club
This week, we’re proud to feature our stellar Healthy Aging Club (HAC)! The HAC is also on Instagram (and Facebook, YouTube, and GroupMe). We spoke with the club president, Camryn Lau, to get the rundown.
Who can join the HAC?
The HAC is open to any and all majors! We have members studying HDFS, Nutrition, and even Engineering. We’re united in our passion for serving older adults.
What’s one of the best aspects of being a club member?
The best aspect of being a member of the HAC is being able to connect with the local community and being of service to others.
How can HAC affiliation aid you in your career goals?
Participating in the HAC is a great way to gain experience for pre-professional careers. Our club brings in experts into the field of aging studies and teaches you the skills to collaborate with community partners.

Great Give-off: Supporting Basic Needs and Food Security
The Great Give-Off, a COH belonging campaign, focuses on food security and community support. It combines resource sharing—like campus food access and OSU Extension programs—with fun, team-based giving opportunities (e.g., a food drive, online fundraising, and Penny Olympics). We are currently accepting donatable food products for the Basic Needs Center (BNC) in the Women’s Building. If you have questions about participating or donating, please reach out to Gabbi Merales. If you’d benefit from what the BNC offers, you and your family are always welcome to stop by; the BNC Peer Navigators are helpful!

Cooking for Climate: A Climate-focused Nutrition Education Workshop
For many of us, sustainability is a crucial value, especially when it comes to food. The Cooking for Climate workshop, which’ll be offered three times in Milam 105 (Wednesday, November 12; Monday, November 17; and Friday, November 21), is a perfect opportunity to gain experience participating in a research study while learning how to reduce your carbon footprint when it comes to what you eat. If you’re eligible to participate, feel free to join Nutrition graduate student Alex Madachy and Dr. Sarah Rothenberg during one of these sessions by scanning the QR code below!

Info Session: Applied Behavioral Health Master’s Degree
New Program Alert: COH is proud to inform you of our new Accelerated Master’s Program in Applied Behavioral Health! If you think counseling and mental health may be your career calling, we invite you to join this pizza-filled info session on Thursday, November 13 in Bexell 214 from 6-7 PM. While ideal for HDFS students and/or PSY minors, everyone, regardless of your undergraduate major, is welcome to attend if you think this might be a path, which results in Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) certification, for you.

Course Spotlights: H 119 and KIN 280
In case you’re unaware, COH has a splendid new Course Finder tool to help you choose the right courses for you! As we approach registration, this is the perfect time to give it a whirl. This week, we’re spotlighting two brand new COH courses making their debut this winter!
H 119 (Unpacking Life Expectancy in the US): How does living in the US, one of the wealthiest nations on Earth, impact life expectancy? Why do people in other well-off democracies live longer, healthier lives than Americans? In H 119, you’ll uncover the surprising answers. Whether you’re interested in health, policy, social issues, or making informed decisions about your own well-being, this class will help you think critically about the systems that shape health outcomes. H 119 also satisfies the Social Science Core Ed category.
KIN 280 (Talk, Move, Thrive: Communication for Active Living): In KIN 280, you’ll practice real communication skills such as listening, coaching and creating media messages that promote healthy habits. You’ll even build your own health campaign–an invaluable professional skill! Whether you’re into fitness, healthcare, or simply motivating others, this course is a gem. KIN 280 also satisfies the Communication, Media & Society Core Ed category.
