A BIT ABOUT ME
Prior to transitioning into tech/software development, I wanted to become a doctor. Throughout my first undergraduate degree in Biology, I volunteered in different hospitals and worked day and night as a medical assistant, medical scribe, and later, an office manager. The thought of helping people, working in an interesting and dynamic environment, and the opportunity to be life-long learner allured me to this career path, but many life events led me to re-evaluate what was important to me and what I wanted out of my life. I’ve always loved computer and video games, and didn’t realize the tinkering I did in my tween years on Tumblr and MySpace was coding. And… it was fun! In addition, everything that I wanted in the medical field was something I could find in the tech field. Thus, I enrolled to OSU Computer Science Post-Bacc Program and haven’t looked back! I’m excited to become a software developer, as this is my last quarter. If high school me were to glimpse at current me, she’d think “That’s an actual job???” I guess that’s what happens when your high school is severely underfunded and no courses were available to us to explore the tech field!
THOUGHTS ON CAPSTONE PROJECT
Personally, I am excited to work on a capstone project. I have really enjoyed the breadth of projects I have been able to create during this program, and it has been helpful for me to get a feel for what I would like to do in the future especially as an indecisive, generally OK with everything kind of person. In no particular order, I selected the Cross Platform Discussion App, Text Based Adventure Game, Wine Data Lake, and the Online Project Management Website.
FUTURE CAREER
Mentioned earlier, I can be an indecisive person. Luckily, this doesn’t bleed into my work ethic, but it does make my focus/overall goals a bit more convoluted. As graduation date looms, I’ve been applying to jobs after getting my health back in order. I haven’t really focused on what specialty I’d like to go into, but I am interested in mobile apps, full-stack dev, database management, or something with IT. Well, whatever I end up doing in the near future, I am certain it will be something I enjoy.
MY CURRENT INTERESTS
I recently transitioned working full-time to part-time, mainly to focus on my health. Thankfully, I’ve been doing a lot better and finally have the attention span to delve back into my interests! In my free-time, I love walking/running outside, weight training, reading books, playing video games, chatting with my friends, trying new recipes, and researching for tasty food to try.
