Understanding My Stress and Preparing for a Health Career

After completing the Life Stress Questionnaire, Coping and Stress Management Skills Test, and the Type A Personality Survey, I learned several things about how stress affects me. My Life Stress Questionnaire score was 245, which places me in the 150-250 range. According to the assessment, people within this range have about a one-third chance of experiencing illness or an accident related to stress. This shows that even moderate stress levels can have adverse health effects if not managed properly (American Institute of Stress, n.d.). The result helped me realize that even though I may not always feel overwhelmed, the amount of stress in my life is still something I should keep an eye on.

The Coping and Stress Management Skills Test indicated that I am not currently experiencing significant stress. The result suggested that I am generally calm and able to manage stressors when they arise. My Type A Personality Survey score was 45 out of 100. This places me in the range of a mix between Type A and Type B personality traits. This suggests that I have a balance between ambition and flexibility. While Type A personalities tend to be competitive and time-driven, Type B personalities are typically more relaxed. Having traits from both can help me remain productive without becoming overly stressed.

As I move forward in my professional career, there are several steps I can take to continue managing my stress. Maintaining healthy habits such as regular exercise, healthy eating, adequate sleep, and social connections can help protect both mental and physical health. Stress-management techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, journaling, and reframing stressful situations can also help prevent stress from building up over time (Mayo Clinic, 2023).

Stress is a major concern for many organizations because it can affect employee health, productivity, and job satisfaction. Research has shown that many workers experience workplace stress. This can contribute to burnout, absenteeism, and lower performance (Gallup, 2022). Many organizations are implementing employee wellness programs, mental health resources, flexible work schedules, and stress-management training to support employee well-being (Society for Human Resource Management, 2023). These initiatives help employees maintain healthier lifestyles while also improving overall organizational performance.

All of these assessments helped me better understand my stress levels and personality traits. If I continue to build health habits and use effective coping strategies, I can better manage stress and maintain my well-being throughout my professional career.
