Many childhood memories contain visions of tiny circular cakes emerging from a small slot in a plastic oven. The Easy-Bake Oven is a toy that uses a simple heating element to cook prepackaged mixes that make various food items. It was created in 1963 by toy company Kenner and later bought by Hasbro. Many different designs have circulated throughout the past 5 decades that attempt to reflect the styles of the time. There have been claims that the oven is sexist because of the pink and purple colors and girl specific marketing. Even with these claims, and previous safety recalls, the Easy-Bake Oven has endured and does not appear to be leaving the shelves any time soon.
