University Relations and Marketing is proud to host the second annual OSU Brand Symposium on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at The LaSells Stewart Center. Come hear from an exciting lineup of guest speakers that are sure to inspire and ignite creativity in the areas of diversity and inclusion, graphic design, media and film. We’ll also provide updates on the brand system from the last year and launch our awards program!

Registration Fee:  Registration to attend the Symposium is $30 and includes lunch and light refreshments.

Featured Speakers

Punam Mathur
Punam is a former senior vice president of corporate diversity and community affairs for MGM Resorts. Currently, she is the executive director of the Elaine P. Wynn and Family Foundation and has her own business as a speaker and trainer. At the symposium she will call on her experience and speak about creating an organizational culture centered on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Aric Avelino 
Aric is an award-winning filmmaker who’s production work includes various roles on television commercials, motion pictures, and music videos. His feature film directorial debut, “American Gun” was featured at SXSW and Toronto Film Festivals and was nominated for three Film Independent Spirit Awards including “Best Feature Film”. Recently, he was selected as a fellow for the 2017 Sundance Institute TV Episodic Lab for his script “Hope, AR”. Aric is currently a Professor at his alma mater Loyola Marymount University where he teaches Film Directing at LMU’s School of Film and Television. At the symposium, Aric will speak on compelling storytelling. He will also host a screening of his most recent film “Behind the Movement” at the Lonnie B. Harris Black Cultural Center on April 23.

Valerie De La Rosa
Valerie is a seasoned digital video strategy and marketing executive with over 10 years of digital experience. Currently, she is the Director of Marketing & Media Strategy for Condé Nast Entertainment. She is an insights-driven brand storyteller igniting passion for trends, strategy, innovation, and content creation. She voraciously discovers the outliers that inevitably transition into mainstream behaviors. Dominating the cultural conversation using video, she takes a brand beyond viral hits and creates movement. Most recently, Valerie was one of 25 women in New York City nominated and selected for the 2018 Women In Power Fellowship through 92Y. At the symposium, she will share insights into how the Millennial and Gen Z audiences consume media, and discuss ways Oregon State can effectively use strategies in recruitment advertising.

Aaron Draplin
Aaron is a Portland-based graphic designer with clients including Nike, Burton Snowboards, Esquire, Red Wing, Ford Motor Company and the Obama administration. At the symposium, he will share industry lessons and give advice on how to be successful in your own creative pursuits.
