Justin’s blog

Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Justin, and I am a software engineer at Philips. I currently live in Seattle with my partner and two dogs.

The purpose of this blog is two-fold. 1) Document my progress in my OSU computer science capstone. 2) Provide context for who I am as a developer and how I got here.  I am a career transitioning software engineer and did not take a very direct path to getting where I am today.  In this blog I hope to discuss my background – how it impacts my work practices and how they got me here today.  I’ve worked in a wide variety of fields from agriculture to construction to healthcare manufacturing and as a result I’ve been exposed to a fair number of processes, workflows, and even life outlooks!

Ultimately, I hope this blog can help anyone who is currently considering a move into tech or has started their career change.  The software industry is rife with imposter syndrome. Transitioning from another career tends to compound those feelings of not belonging.  In an industry often knocked for a lack of diverse thinking. I believe engineers that transition to software later in their careers bring an important fresh perspective on whatever team they may be a part of.
