Mission & Values

Our Bodhi Science Mission: We aim to better understand, and live in connection with nature through transdisciplinary research activities that integrate biological approaches with Buddhist and other contemplative worldviews, practices, and ethical frameworks.

We study diverse life forms including mushrooms, nematodes, rhinoceros, slugs and snails, and Bodhi trees. Our training environment supports the synthesis of diverse research methods including biological field research, lab experiments, genomics, ethnographic surveys, and other creative approaches. We integrate meditation, mindfulness, and other contemplative practices into our research and teaching activities. Our biology courses center inclusive and anti-racist curricula and pedagogies. We pursue our mission in collaboration with diverse research and community partners in Oregon, Hawai‘i, and Nepal.
