I have about one month left until I graduate and become a first-time dad. I’m actually quite nervous to be searching for a job in a new field with a baby on the way. While I’ve heard that the tech industry can offer a good work life balance, I don’t know if they’ll be thrilled with hiring a soon to be parent. I’ve heard of companies giving employees paid family leave but I don’t know if it would be possible to use upon being hired or after a few weeks on the job.
Since I have no idea how demanding raising a baby can be, I’ve been contemplating about just postponing my job search for a few weeks. I think doing so will give me time to adjust, extra time with my daughter, and get a routine going, if that’s even possible in the first few months lol. This way I wouldn’t have to worry about getting and using family leave so soon.
