MGMT 453 Week 6 Blog Post

Throughout the jobs that I have had, I have felt like I have had decent training. I would say the best training that I have received would be my sales job in a house cleaning company. This job included going into people’s homes and giving them a quote of what the price would be to clean their home. The training started by receiving a script of what I should be saying when I go into the person’s home. I would walk through the office and go into each room, explaining how our company would clean each of the rooms, and practice until I was ready to go into homes. I was taught how to specifically talk in each room, use the tones in the right area, and understand how to sell each individual something. The benefits from training in this company was that it was meaningful. In our lecture, having meaningful training betters the company. This company wants to be successful, and continue to make money, and receive more customers. They showed me how to do things respectfully, and in a way that helps me and the company.

One training experience that I had that was not very beneficial to me was a host position training. I had never worked in a restaurant before, and it was intimidating for me to come into work and know how the set up is, and what to do in certain situations. I was given an orientation day, and was told I would be training for two days, and then on my own. This was not beneficial for myself. I walked around and followed the host for two days, explained everything fast, and bussed tables. The management team didn’t help with any questions that I had, and didn’t make me feel very welcomed. This did not benefit my knowledge of the restaurant, and took me a while to figure out and learn everything. I had to ask other servers, staff, and bartenders how the job should be done. The learning materials this week helped me learn the different experiences I had that were well taught, and ones that could have been better.
