Happy stargazing,

We are excited to announce that the Astronomy Club is hosting a virtual star party with Tom Carrico on Monday, May 17 starting at 8:00. Tom Carrico teaches astrophotography and heads the local astronomy club, Heart of the Valley Astronomers. We’re super lucky that he is willing to stargaze with us using his remotely operated telescope in New Mexico! Make sure to bring a list of astronomical objects that you want to see.
Check out Tom Carrico’s site of some of the photos he has taken!
Join the Astronomy Club on Monday, May 3rd at 6 PM as we host Didgette McCracken (OSU Open Campus – Grant County) and amateur astronomers from John Day in Eastern Oregon. We will hear about their plans to construct an observatory in John Day, and learn about how we can get involved in the project, including opportunities to help with funding, education/outreach, star gazing, future research, etc. We encourage anyone who wants to learn about this project or is interested in getting involved to attend, so please drop by and see what’s what!

Welcome back to classes and astronomy! We hope that you’re excited for night observations and other events this term! The first event for the club is actually tomorrow evening from 5-8 pm in WNGR 379. This will be a social gathering with pizza and games to unveil the astro club’s new shared space with the society of physics students (SPS) and Physicists for Inclusion in Science (PhIS).
This shared space will house the extensive library that the astro club has acquired, which members will be able to check out books from, and it will be open for all members to use during the day to study, no matter what your major is.
Spring open house will be on June 7th from 8:30-11pm! Drop by Weniger hall for fun astronomy-related activities, an astrophotography display, and more! Be sure to check out the rooftop, where we’ll have several telescopes set up for night-time observations!
