“Hi I’m Max – the president of this club you are in. If you aren’t, then stop reading my bio why are you this bored, go do your homework. It’s my 4th year at OSU. I’m a climate science major, but over the years I’ve dabbled in a lot of fields of study, often with an approach to energy and systems analysis. I’m your leader because I organize stuff for events, but I’m actually terrible at astronomy. Don’t expect me to be any help identifying constellations or finding neat stuff to look at with the telescopes. I like looking at planets and the moon (did you know it is made of cheese??) and would like to start getting practice on our astrophotography equipment – summer goal.
I’m hoping to start doing research on Venus by making iteratively more complex climate models. Maybe I’ll do planetary science when I grow up? My life goal is to get to Mars, and then sometime after that get eaten alive by a bear. I think I’d feel really alive in that moment.”

“Hi! My name is Ethan and I’m your Vice President for next year! I’m a graduate student studying nuclear engineering, and I have my bachelor’s degree in astrophysics. I love everything about astronomy, from the physics behind how stars form to learning about how different cultures all around the world interpreted the same phenomena. I especially love the stories of the constellations!”

“Heyo! My name is Emily, I’m the current bureaucracy officer! I’m a second year graduate student doing inorganic cluster chemistry relating to direct air carbon dioxide capture. I would love to be an astrochemist one day and work for NASA! My favorite part about astronomy is all the chemistry in the interstellar medium and within star formation processes.”

“Hi! My name is Lily and I am your social media/propaganda officer! I make all the posts you see and help promote club events. I am a double major in psychology and history. I’ve always loved astronomy, and how ancient civilizations have created their own stories about what we see! My favorite thing to look for in the sky is star clusters!”

“Hi! I’m Satine. I am the Astronomy Club Secretary. I major in Animal Science with a Bio-Health option, and a minor in Agricultural Food & Business Management. I haven’t done any research related to Astronomy or Physics, but last summer I took part in an internship in New Zealand at a wildlife reserve working with exotic animals which was amazing. Despite my lack of background in Astronomy, it’s always been something that I’ve always found interesting, with my favorite astronomical event being the Perseid meteor shower that happens every year in the summer. When I’m not in class or working I enjoy baking, camping, and spending time with my friends.”

“Hi! I’m Marina and I will be the Public Relations officer this year. My major is microbiology and I’m a pre-vet student. I’m doing research on the canine gut microbiome. I joined astronomy club because I’ve always loved learning about our solar system and beyond. My favorite space fact is that a day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus. A fun fact about me is that I play alto saxophone in the marching band!”

“Hey there, everyone! I am Ian Díaz, and I am the club treasurer this year. I am a second-year Master’s of Physics student, but I also got my Bachelors degree in Physics here! Over the years, I have been researching pulsars for my undergraduate thesis, but I am now taking an even more in-depth look at three specific pulsars using X-ray data from NASA’s NICER mission. Apart from doing physics, I climb, go on hikes, and play games. I’ll also mention that cats are my favorite animal! See you all around!”
