This is my first time ever doing a blog or even reading blogs. Over the past few weeks I have learned a lot. I have come to find out first hand how unpredictable working can be. When I started this adventure of school I planned on taking one online course (this class) and a class on campus to get some prerequisites. My wife is going to school and taking a full load of classes herself. Not to mention that we are raising two kids and I’m working full time. My boss changed our office hours with only 2 days notice and made time management an impossible task. De-conflicting schedules was now a major issue. Just to make our home life manageable and cohesive I had to drop my class in the classroom. I have come to realize that in order for me to accomplish my goals of school it is mandatory for me to take online classes. It gives me the flexibility to accomplish my assignments and post any time of day and not be hand cuffed to one particular day and time. These challenges that have been put in front of me make taking classes the adventure. I would like to leave a quote that a mentor once told me. “Life Happens” meaning you can make all the plans in the world but some things are out of your control.

  1. Brilliant quote! I say that often because it is so true – and life has been happening and happening to me for quite some time now 😉 I completely understand, as I’m sure many also can, how helpful it is to have flexibility with online classes. This is my first quarter, but the past two years I was in traditional school and it was becoming more and more difficult because of scheduling with my husband and kids – not to mention I was seeing them less and less (I also work part-time) and that was really starting to affect me. I am so happy to hear that this is a workable option for you, too!

  2. I think that it is great that you were open to trying online learning… it sounds like it will be solution to getting your education while still living a busy family life! I think that the flexibility you demonstrated when you decided to try online learning will not only benefit your education, but I’m sure your family relationships as well:)

  3. Be patient with yourself as you transition into this, Matt. I have no doubt you will soon feel a little more settled… and still, I know, Life Happens. I hate it when life gets in the way!!
