Why did you choose your project, and has it met your expectations thus far?

The reason I chose this project is because I thought it had a really interesting and meaningful goal, which is to help regulate ISPs and ensure they are delivering the internet connection speeds they promised to provide in exchange for governmental funding. There’s an issue where essentially ISPs across the country aren’t holding their up their end of the deal when they agree to take funding from the US government in order to supply internet to places where broadband connections are undeserved.

The purpose of the project I’m working on is to create a website that displays test data gathered by the company behind this project. This test data is internet connection data collected at individual homes across the US, and the purpose of these tests are to independently verify that the speeds ISPs say they are providing, are actually being provided. And our role in this project involves with taking this data, and displaying it in meaningful and intuitive ways both in a list format, and a map display, which markers and an individual info graphic for each test done (as each test contains location data).

I would say the project has mostly met my expectations. There have been some setbacks I wasn’t anticipating. There have been challenges coordinating certain things with teams from other parts of the project and organization. But besides that it is going well, and I’m excited to create a website that actually has use in the real world.
