Hoofin’ It For Agriculture

On June fifth, Sigma Alpha hosted their first annual “Hoofin’ It For Agriculture” 5K run/walk.  Twenty-five runners began their three mile race around OSU campus Sunday morning.  With the generous donations of local businesses, top finishing individuals were awarded gift cards.  The Dairy Farmers of Oregon contributed milk for participants at the end of the race.  “Hoofin’ It For Agriculture” is Sigma Alpha’s philanthropy for Ag in the Classroom.  Ag in the Classroom is a non-profit organization that travels the state educating elementary school students on the importance of agriculture.  This year, Sigma Alpha raised over six hundred dollars for Ag in the Classroom.  Thank you to all of the sponsors and participants that made this philanthropy a success.

Alpha Gamma Rho Hits The Trails

On Saturday June 4th, members of the Oregon State University Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) took to the trails. However, instead of heading out to enjoy the great hiking trails of the McDonald-Dunn Forest, the members of AGR were helping to build them. Alpha Gamma Rho, a fraternity whose members are studying agriculture, forestry and natural resources, prides itself in giving back to the natural resource community and volunteering in ways that benefit awareness of our natural resources. Eleven of their members spent the morning and early afternoon rebuilding trails, specifically in Peavy Arboretum, in an area being developed to showcase different eco-zones found in Oregon. Peavy Arboretum is always looking for more trail volunteers and information can be found at http://www.cof.orst.edu/cf/forests/arboretum/.
