Computers have been a large part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up I spent many late nights playing video games with friends and when I wasn’t gaming, I was often tinkering with the computer’s hardware. Despite this, I pursued a degree in Petroleum Engineering and kicked off my career in the oil and gas sector. My wife and I packed up, moved to Texas, and began acclimating to West Texas’s HOT summer days (and haboobs).
We enjoyed our time in Texas but once kids came along, we decided we needed to be closer to family. That was the catalyst I needed to begin my career transition and the decision was made to chase my long-time passion by enrolling in Oregon State’s Computer Science post-bacc program.
Fast forward two years and my time at Oregon State draws to a close with the Capstone course and Programming Language Fundamentals. It is hard to believe that two years have passed but looking back, I have made more progress than I would have thought possible. I have successfully made the career transition, I have over a year of real-world software engineering experience, and will begin my Master’s in Computer Science at Georgia Tech in the Spring of 2023.
