In this blog, I will talk a little bit about my timeline during my job hunt this year.
I started my job hunt at the beginning of September this year right before I went to Grace Hopper Celebration. I uploaded my resume through the resume database and submitted some job applications through anita.org. Then I take a flight to the Grace Hopper Celebration.
First In Person Experience at GHC
Grace Hopper Celebration(GHC) is the world’s largest gathering of women in tech. I have attended the GHC in the last two years virtually. This year, the GHC opened in person again, so I quickly registered for the event. I attended the expo hall and got to know a lot about different companies and their culture. I definitely recommend attending GHC because not only did I got to learn so much about the job market but also I made friends. I got a chance to network with different people in different companies and I met a lot of new grads too in the event. We shared our experiences during the GHC event and also job hunt journey. Some companies also host interviews at GHC.
After I got back from GHC, I continued to submit my job application. I have got some online assessments as well as interviews depending on each company’s hiring process. Most companies will start with a HR screening after you submit an application and send you an online assessment to finish. After the online assessment, depending on the specific situation, some of them will send out an invite for video interviews like behavioral interview or coding interview. Some companies will have several rounds of video interviews. After interviews they will send the final decision about your application.
I know this year has been so hard for new grads in the job market, but what we can do is to keep trying. Hope everyone can find their dream job!
