Self-Reflection

In this week’s material, we gained insight into the importance of self-reflection and how to do so. Through self-reflection, one can gain insights into their strengths, weaknesses, values, and aspirations. It is a valuable tool for personal growth and development, as it encourages individuals to question their beliefs, learn from past experiences, and make conscious choices for the future. Self-reflection also provides an opportunity for self-awareness and self-improvement, enabling us to align our actions with our true selves and lead more fulfilling lives.

When self-reflecting one of the questions we ask is what are we good at? In my opinion, I believe that I excel in time management and my quality of work is better than the quantity I output. I also feel that I communicate well with others when working on projects or ask questions when I am unsure of something.

Another common question we ask ourselves is what do we value? Some people like to work a job for the salary and benefits whereas others look to help others and take the salary cut that comes with it. For me, I value a job that I enjoy doing every day and feel welcome at. Company culture and comradery are very important to me so if I find a job where I like the people and my responsibilities, I’ll take that over a boring high paying job every time.

Now that I’ve established what I think I’m good at and what I value, I then have to ask how I find a job that suits my strengths and what I value. The biggest thing when searching for a job with these parameters is to ask questions during the interview process about the company or to people who work or have worked at these companies and see if they align with what traits I bring to the table. If they tell me though what I’m searching for is at this company then it will be a top priority for me to work here or a similar company.

The last question I need to ask myself is where am I going? With all of this information and the values I have, I need to apply for jobs that in some shape or form allow me to live a meaningful and enjoyable life. I think there is definitely more that I can do to build my experience and get me to these jobs I want to work, I just need to make a clear plan to build more skill sets to help you get there.
