Executive Summary:
Wildfire property damage and safety concerns in the expanding wildland-urban interface are great and are increasing annually. The issue is multifaceted, and some policy measures can be taken to somewhat mitigate risk to private property and homes from wildfire damages. A viable policy solution would be to enact bills that provide financial aid to homeowners, other private landowner resources, and to fund educational programs in order to (a) reduce private damages incurred from wildfires in the WUI by implementing fuels reduction projects and increasing defensible space, and (b) reduce strain on wildfire suppression resources that result from poorly-defensible structures.
